Top Nutrition FAQs Answered by a Winchester Nutritionist (Part 2: Weight, Diets & Health Timelines)
Thank you for coming to read Part 2 of my FAQ series. In Part 1, we covered: fatigue, bloating, hormones and supplements. This blog post is going to look at weight, ‘diet’s’, and healing timelines.
5. “What does a balanced plate actually look like?”
Creating balance on your plate is usually simpler than you think. A realistic plate includes:
- Protein (keeps blood sugar stable + hormones)
- Vegetables/Fibre (gut health + hormones + liver detoxification)
- Healthy fats (satiety + hormones + mood)
- Slow releasing carbohydrates (energy)
6. “Is gluten-free or dairy-free automatically better?”
I get asked this question daily and the answer is: No. However, realistically, many clients do feel better when they reduce gluten or dairy, particularly for gut issues, acne, or fatigue.
The key is making sure you’re:
- Still getting enough calories and nutrients
- Not falling into “free-from” ultra-processed traps
- Supporting your gut repopulate and rebuild
- Not avoiding gluten and dairy long-term
If you want to try a GF or DF diet, I strongly recommend working with a registered nutritionist.
7. “When should I see a nutritionist instead of Googling?”
When you feel stuck or overwhelmed. You might benefit from personalised support if:
- Your symptoms keep returning
- “Eating healthy” isn’t fixing anything
- You feel confused by conflicting advice
- You’ve lost your period
- You’re mental health is affected
- You’re exhausted, bloated, or not recovering well
- You want sustainable weight loss with constant support and encouragement
8. “How long until I feel better?”
Most women see improvements within 4-12 weeks, depending on the issue.
Typical timelines:
- Bloating → often within 4-6 weeks
- Energy → 4-8 weeks
- Hormones/amenorrhoea → 3-6 months
- Weight loss → steady and sustainable (1-2lbs per week is a good goal)
9. “Can I lose weight without damaging my hormones?”
Yes, but only when done intentionally. Sustainable weight loss requires:
- Adequate protein intake
- Balanced blood sugar
- Eating enough
- Managing stress
- A calm nervous system
- Proper recovery from training
10. “How do I work with you if I’m in Winchester or Hampshire?”
I work with clients:
- In-person near Winchester (Otterbourne specifically)
- Online across Hampshire and the rest of the UK
As always, if you have made it this far, thank you for reading this blog. I hope it answered some of your questions! If you’re dealing with gut issues, fatigue, missing periods or feel like you’re constantly doing everything “right” but still not feeling well, this is exactly the work I specialise in. Please feel free to contact me and we can have a chat to see if we are a good fit for each other.
